Mission
To assist the Halifax Hockey Group prospects achieve their maximum hockey potential while learning important life lessons such as integrity, commitment and determination.
Philosophy
The Halifax Hockey Group (HHG) enables each player's development of their individual fundamental skills of skating, passing, and shooting, to their greatest potential.
The Halifax Hockey Group (HHG) brings together THE MOST ELITE hockey players from all regions of Nova Scotia to receive the very best individual skill development instruction available in the Atlantic Provinces. The HHG will have the best playing with the best. Our players will be challenged to achieve their greatest potential not only by our instructors but by their elite level peers.
The HHG makes the May to August season "a fun hockey learning environment" for all invited and for those who want to take advantage of what the HHG's programs offer. The HHG gives its players great exposure by participating in great events along side other strong players in their age group and strive to work with other hockey partners to provide hockey programs of excellence to young prospects during the summer. The staff at HHG is well connected within the hockey industry and assists young prospects by giving them exposure and the opportunity to choose the best route in hockey, including Major Midget, Prep Schools, Junior Programs as well as Canadian College and NCAA programs.
Objectives
» Identify, Develop, Implement a High Proformance Skills Development Program for the advanced player.
» Ensure each member of the Halifax Hockey Group (HHG) - IP to Junior and female players is provided with equal development opportunities regardless of divisional advancement within the Association.
» Ensure each member of the Halifax Hockey Group (HHG) - IP to Junior and female players is provided with equal opportunities to participate with the intent to have fun, practice, improve, demonstrate the abilities, grow and develop as a proud Member of the Halifax Hockey Group.
» Assist, teach, train and educate all HHG staff how to effectively teach, train, improve, provide guidance, leadership and encouragement to the HHG members.
» Ensure all members of the HHG, all participants representing the HHG; our instructors and our directors provide leadership, respect, pride and dignity to the hockey community and their hockey competitors.
» Ensure all HHG members are exposed to hockey development experiences that best compliment that players skills and abilities creating a strong foundation, continued improvement, growth and overall enjoyment of “Lacing up the skates!”
"The Hockey School"
"The Hockey School" is our elite high-performance program specifically designed for dedicated players who take a serious, focused approach to their training and development . The rigourous, physically demanding curriculum of this program challenges the indivudual player, and all of those around him/her, to elevate their game to the next level. HHG employs an experienced and professional coaching staff that is committed to teaching and developing players in order that they may one day play and succeed at the Major Midget, High School, Junior, College and Professional levels. "The Hockey School" is unique in that it provides an immersive enviroment similar to that which a player would experience while playing at the Junior or College level.
HHG utilizes a multi-faceted approach to each player's individual development by providing not only specialized on-ice instruction, but also an enriching classroom program and an equally specialized off-ice strength training and conditioning system. At "The Hockey School" this approach ensures a player the high level of individual development, both on and off the ice, that HHG is committed to providing every student.
The high performance on ice programs at "The Hockey School" are delivered in structured and intense hour long sessions. The main objective is the development of positive skills progressions for power skating fundamentals; stopping, acceleration, edge control, cross-overs. The understanding of the importance of power, balance & agility, will also enhance techinical skills in other areas such as puck control, passing and shooting. Players will be taught offensive and defensive techniques for both forwards and defensemen positions and a strong focus on combative play and on-ice strategies for individuals in 1vs1, 2vs2, 3vs3 & 5vs5 situations.
Classroom sessions are designed to educate players on how to be a focused athletes away from the rink, as well as teach cutting edge concepts and techniques at the forefront of modern hockey development theory. Included in the lesson plans are in depth seminars on the current concepts of mental preparation, nutrition and training, as well as seminars showing the importance of being a committed student and what it takes to become a Junior, College or Professional hockey player.
Strength training and conditioning at "The Hockey School" is comprised of a comprehensive and age specific program derived from the most current and effective methods of player development currently being used at the NHL, AHL, European professional, Major Junior and College levels. The training curriculum is designed not only to help increase the players conditioning level, but also to teach the player why they do a given exercise, what they are gaining from doing it and how to properly execute the motion for maximum developmental benefit. Although the methods vary by age group, the facets of development include the development of balance, explosiveness, core strength and stability, quickness and hockey specific ranges of motion.
